Fourth of July

Mason,

Daddy and I are delighted that you joined us for all of our July 4th traditions this year. There are several DC staples that we're proud to have introduced you to during your first year of life: the National Book Festival, the National Christmas Tree, cherry blossom season, and now, July 4th fireworks on the National Mall.

After our annual dinner--most of which you sampled--of BBQ ribs, corn on the cob, salad, watermelon, and strawberry pie, you sat in our yard and waved your little flag.

We strolled to see the fireworks on the National Mall. We settled on a grassy area near the Capitol.

You rolled all over our blanket and even escaped a few times, trying to make friends with the people next to us.

During the fireworks, you sat quietly, which we couldn't believe. We're spoiling you with such impressive fireworks at your first viewing. The July 4th festivities don't get much better than in your hometown.

Love you, Cupcake!

Mommy
